The greater Knoxville area offers tremendous opportunities in a wide range of fields. In fact, the Economic Research Institute named the area the best place in the United States for recent college graduates. Examples in just a few industries:
Science and technology
Oak Ridge National Laboratory is the area's largest employer. The new Center for Nanophase Materials Science and Spallation Neutron Source will be devoted to leading-edge basic research. The Center for Computational Sciences is leading a partnership to build the world's most powerful supercomputer. The area's Innovation Valley technology corridor has attracted a wide range of applied technology companies.
Boating
The country's leading boat manufacturer, Brunswick Marine, and their Sea-Ray division are headquartered here. So are Bryant Boats, ski boat company MasterCraft and many more. Others, like Christensen Yachts, Malibu and Cobalt Yachts have manufacturing plants in the area.
Entertainment
Regal Cinema, the nation's largest theater chain is here. So is Bandit Lights, the country's leader in lighting and staging for touring shows. Scripps Networks and their HGTV and DIY channels are headquartered across the street from a Covenant Health hospital. There is so much independent production of everything from feature films to television shows, videos and commercials that Knoxville is the fourth-largest production center in the United States.
Medical technology
DeRoyal Industries is headquartered in Powell, just outside of Knoxville, and a GE Medical Systems division is across the street from them. Siemens Medical Solutions' PET manufacturing facility is here, the Mouse Genetics Research Facility in Oak Ridge is a significant resource in the study of mammalian genetics, and Atmospheric Glow Technologies is developing atmospheric plasma technology to sterilize medical instruments.

Berkshire-Hathaway's Clayton Homes division is the world's leader in manufactured housing. Denso and a host of other automotive parts companies supply virtually every manufacturer in the country. ImagePoint is America's leader in on-premise signage and identification. Bush Brothers is number one in beans. An Alcoa plant turns out millions of aluminum cans every day. EdAmerica is a nationwide leader in student loans. Pilot's travel centers are at 270 interstate off ramps, and there are 500 Ruby Tuesday casual dining restaurants nationwide. TVA supplies power to six states. The University of Tennessee employs thousands. They're all here, and they're all looking for good people.
